Kemp
I went from carefree to single dad overnight, and I’m in way over my head.
My life was already packed—firefighter shifts, running a brewery—but nothing prepared me for this. Or for how much I need Anna.
She steps in without hesitation, like she always does. But keeping things to just friends is even harder than being a dad.
We’re living in close quarters, sharing responsibilities, and building something that looks a lot like a family.
Now I’m falling for my best friend—and I don’t know how to stop.
Anna
Loving Kemp has always been my secret. Safe. One-sided. Controlled.
Until now.
Helping him means stepping into his world—into forced proximity, quiet moments, and a life that feels dangerously like mine.
The more time we spend together, the harder it is to pretend I don’t want more.
Because this isn’t just a crush anymore. It’s everything.
And if he doesn’t feel the same… I could lose the one person I can’t live without.

This friend to lovers romance captured my heart right from the beginning. Kemp and Anna grew up together and are very close, helping each other through good times and bad. They wondered if they could be more but never wanted to risk losing each other if it didn't work. When Kemp discovers he is a dad to an adorable baby boy, he is overwhelmed. He’s a volunteer firefighter and brewmaster and partner at Rusty Anchor. He asks Anna to move in to help take care of baby Oliver when he is on call. Anna is happy to help because she loves them both. But when Kemp is burning the candle at both ends, she encourages him to stop volunteering and stick with his passion of brewing craft beers. Kemp is torn between the tradition his father loved and what makes him happy. When Kemp pushes back, will he push Anna away for good? I loved Kemp and Anna together and the sweet little family they were making together. They are both genuine and relatable with their vulnerabilities, and strengths. They fit so perfectly together, having fun, loving their family, and their passion for each other is off the charts!
Lee Samuels and Willa Jaymes were so perfectly cast to narrate this fun and heartwarming romance. They completely captured these characters and made me feel all the hope, heartbreak, love, and passion they possessed. I was completely mesmerized by their storytelling making this romance even more delightful.
Amy Knupp pens another fabulous novel set in her “Single Dads of Dragonfly Lake” series, a small-town friend-to-lovers romance that warms your heart and captivates your attention. The single dads get together to share stories, tips, and support one another, and each book in the series features a member of that special group, and their story stands on its own. The sixth book in the series focuses on Kemp and Anna, who grew up next door to each other and became best friends, deeply connected and each other’s person. Kemp keeps a busy schedule between his job as a brewmaster and a volunteer firefighter, and adding an infant son into the mix, a son he just learned about, is stretching him to the limit, actually beyond his limits. In way over his head, he turns to his bestie, Anna, who agrees to help by moving in. Somewhere along the way, their feelings for one another morphed into something deeper than friendship, but by the signals he sent, she assumed he was not interested, which was far from the truth. He cherished their friendship so much that he was afraid to take the next step, afraid it would jeopardize what they had. It was great watching these two navigate their new situation, learning how to take care of baby Oliver, becoming a team, and with their newfound proximity, the feelings they hid for one another got harder to hide. I loved all the layers of the story and how it all played out, with the perfect balance of drama, angst, charming and heartwarming moments, heartfelt emotions, and a slow-burning, but so worth the wait romance. As always, the writing, plot, and world-building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development, including some side characters. I also loved how the not-so-single dads welcomed him with open arms, and it was great seeing them again, too. Amy Knupp, thank you for another fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Amy Knupp casts the perfect narrators to bring her characters to life. Willa Jaymes and Lee Samuels did an incredible job voicing the characters and delivering a spot-on portrayal of each. They embodied their characters completely, grasping every facet of their personality and their every emotion, making you feel each one. Jaymes was a natural in Anna’s role, empathetic, sweet, and caring, and Samual was just as amazing as Kemp, protective and determined. Both are fantastic at performing the roles of the side/secondary characters, too. These two make a fabulous team, with voices and talent that complement each other and an engaging performance that is entertaining and hooks you to the story.
🎧 dual narration by Narrated By Lee Samuels and Willa Jaymes. Both did a great job betraying the emotions and feelings of the characters and complimented each other.
The final book in the Single Dad’s Of Dragonfly Lake featured Kemp and Anna. Who better to have with you to support and help when you find out that you are a father to a baby you knew nothing about, your lifelong childhood bestie. I enjoyed these two with the secret yearning they both had for each other and the deep connection that existed between them. Oliver was a cute baby. The ending brings the perfect goodbye to this small town and group of friends. With a special appearance from the llama (IYKYK).
